What’s the difference between a podiatrist and a chiropodist?
There’s no difference between a podiatrist and chiropodist, but podiatrist is a more modern name.
Foot pain can be incredibly complex due to the intricate nature of the construction of your foot.
Your foot contains:
- 26 bones
- 33 joints, of which 20 of them are actively articulated
- Over 100 muscles, ligaments and tendons
Pain in your foot can also be caused by problems further up your leg. Even problems with your hip or lower back can mean that you change the way you stand or walk which can be transferred down your leg and cause problems with the complex anatomy of your foot.
This is where a podiatrist working with a physio really comes into their own, being able to understand exactly where the pain is in your foot and how it is caused and then knowing the best way to treat it.
Jason can prescribe custom made orthoses (hand made insoles) for your feet. Orthoses work by reducing the forces acting on your feet, knees , hips and lower spine . They can be used to protect vulnerable areas on your feet and provide excellent comfort for painful feet. He can, if needed get orthotics /insoles to you within 7 days – for your appointment – a very welcome service if you are in pain.
Even if your feet are generally in good condition, you might consider having a single session of podiatry. For example, you may want to have any hard skin on your feet removed or ingrowing toenails checked out.
Currently running his own podiatry practice based in West Moors and Verwood plus a weekly clinic at BWT Physio in Parkstone, Jason also applies his clinical interest in lower limb bio-mechanics with podiatry services for AFC Bournemouth Football Club and the Armed Forces.
Covering all aspects of podiatric foot care, from routine callus and corn treatments through to local anaesthetic surgery for ingrowing toe nails and advanced bio-mechanical assessment with video gait analysis, you can book an appointment at BWT Physio by clicking on the Book Now tab or visit his website at:-
