Announcing a New Service at BWT! – Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)
Get treatment that is available for Olympic athletes, most premiership football clubs and professional rugby teams!
Do you have a sports injury, overuse injury or maybe a condition that is taking its time to heal?
Conditions that can be treated successfully are:
- Plantar Fasciitis (Fasciosis)
- Tennis/Golfers Elbow
- Achilles Tendinopathy
- Patellar Tendonitis (Tendonosis)
- Shoulder Rotator Cuff calcification
- Trochanteric Bursitis at the hip
- Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome
When is it indicated?
Shock Wave is particularly useful for the treatment of conditions where longstanding pain can lead to calcification of tendons where a recurring action repeatedly loads a particular muscle leading to fibrosis and calcification of the attachment of that muscle (via its tendon) to bone.
How does it work?
- Pain reduction: the intensive pulses transmitted from the probe to the tissues help inhibit the transmission of pain signals (Gate Control theory)
- Increased metabolism: shock waves influence tissues on a cellular level, promoting the release of pain inhibiting and inflammatory inhibiting substances
- Revascularisation: repeated shock waves influence the blood flow, promoting tissue healing and regeneration
- Reduced muscle tone: shock waves help restore a normalised muscle tone by reducing the impact of pain on the level of muscle tone
