Menopause – Help is at hand.
July 13, 2021
The Menopause AFFECTS WOMEN, THEIR FAMILIES, COLLEAGUES AND FRIENDS, read on to see why . . .
The usual time span for this process occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 – which means most women can expect around 40 years of post-menopausal life. For some this is even longer as early menopause occurs in approx 5% of women before age 40 or may have been precipitated by surgery such as a hysterectomy.
The significant hormonal changes that hijack our bodies from the start of this process, through peri-menopause to post- menopause, can last for up to 10 years. This fluctuation in hormones can cause profound changes in a women’s health and subsequently lead to side effects that interrupt your normal lifestyle such as:
- physical aches and pains
- reduction in bone density (osteoporosis)
- decrease in strength and balance
- weight gain
- hot flushes
- sleep disturbance, brain fog and depressed mood
- pelvic floor muscle weakness
- urinary and faecal incontinence
- pelvic organ prolapse
- painful intercourse
Fortunately we understand more about how these symptom not only impact on quality of life, but have solutions to combat them.
