Lori Hillman LicAc BSc (Hons) MBAcC is offering Parkinson’s sufferers an opportunity to take advantage of a low cost acupuncture treatment programme at BWT Physiotherapy Centre in Parkstone, Poole.
The Parkinson’s Society has added their support by offering to fund more than half of the cost for the first ten patients, making the twelve week treatment programme affordable to those who want to participate. While acupuncture is not a ‘cure’ for Parkinson’s, it can help minimise many of the symptoms. Clinical trials have shown that acupuncture may maintain dopamine levels by preventing inflammation in the brain. In one clinical trial, 85% of patients reported improvement of individual symptoms and improvement in motor function. Acupuncture treatment is deeply relaxing, reducing levels of stress which can make symptoms worse. Most people say how supported they feel throughout the process of acupuncture treatment - including the carers. There are no adverse effects.
Acupuncture therapy is safe and well tolerated in people with Parkinson’s. If you are affected by Parkinson’s or know someone who is, and would like more information about the acupuncture for Parkinson’s treatment programme, please contact Lori Hillman on 0752 363 5988, email hillmanacupuncture@gmail.com or call BWT Physiotherapy Centre on 01202 749 514.
Traditional Acupuncture has been used in China and other Eastern countries for over 2000 years for the treatment of disease and promotion of health. At the centre of Chinese Medicine philosophy is ‘Qi’- our life energy. Health, both physical and mental is dependent on the smooth and balanced movement of Qi, which flows throughout the body in channels/meridians beneath the skin. The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factors such as anxiety, stress, anger, fear, grief, poor diet, climate, hereditary factors, infections and trauma. Acupuncture can correct the flow of Qi, facilitating the body’s own healing response. The treatment involves inserting very fine needles into specific points on the body or by warming the acupuncture points with moxa, a smouldering herb to regulate the flow of Qi. Acupuncture aims to treat holistically by restoring a healthy balance between mind, body and emotions.
